General Criteria
Successful applications must assist the Trust achieve one of the following goals –
- to be the arts and cultural heartland of New Zealand
- to have a highly effective and sustainable voluntary health, welfare and community sector
- to protect and preserve our heritage and environment
- to achieve the highest level of participation in sport and leisure in NZ.
Successful applicants will need –
- to be financially viable; and
- demonstrate community benefit.
Evaluation will also consider-
- If it is appropriate for this service to be funded by a philanthropic trust.
- Is funding within the scope and ability of this Trust.
- Will funding the project imply ongoing support [funding a feasibility study].
- Collaboration of organisations – for this project or permanent arrangement.
- The organisation’s impact across their own area of interest; and
- Their effectiveness within their geographical area whether it be suburban, local or regional.
The project must not -
- be a commercial venture,
- assist with the growth of a capital fund,
- assist with debt reduction,
- be completed,
- promote or benefit an individual, or
- promote a religious or political message.
Goal 1
To be the arts and cultural heartland of New Zealand
- To qualify for funding an event, festival or programme must assist the region’s cultural advantage.
- The event, festival, programme or project must enhance the reputation of arts and creative diversity within the region.
- Higher priority will be given to -
- free events,
- events, festivals or programmes that utilise the skills and creativity of more than one discipline,
- boldness and vibrancy , and
- projects that focus on audience development.
Goal 2
To have a highly effective and sustainable voluntary health, welfare and community sector.
- To qualify for funding a project must focus on one or more of the following –
- addressing a demonstrated need in the community
- building a strong and sustainable infrastructure by way of -
- collaboration and/or amalgamation
- service improvement, training, planning and learning
- research and evaluation.
- adding to the viability of the group by -
- development of methods to be self sustaining
- funding core administration costs for a defined period.
- taking a lead or trying a new approach.
- Higher priority will be given to
- projects which address the duplication of services and/or providers
- organisations or projects which cover the region
Goal 3
To protect and preserve our heritage and environment
- To qualify for funding a project needs to support an initiative that ensures the long term preservation of the regions environment and history.
- Higher priority will be given to –
- projects that are accessible to the general public,
- projects that recognise the value of our heritage and the importance of protecting it for future generations,
- programmes or projects that portray a region taking best care of its environment,
- projects that preserve our native wildlife and plants and
- projects or programmes that are at local community level.
- The Trust prefers projects that record or celebrate the regions history where there is wide community interest.
Goal 4
To achieve the highest level of participation in sport and recreation in New Zealand.
- To qualify for funding a project or programme must address issues that will encourage more people being actively involved more often and for longer.
- Organisations must also focus on building a strong and sustainable sport and recreation sector by -
- collaboration and/or amalgamation with other codes for one off events or long term,
- collaboration across sectors for events or festivals,
- quality improvement training and planning.
- coaching, education, training and leadership for volunteers.
- Higher priority will be given to projects that -
- increase participation by raising awareness of the health, fun and social benefits of activity
- develop the capacity of the organisation by training and educating its volunteers
- address the duplication of facilities, codes and/or clubs
- cover the region
- offer free participation
- promote the benefits of activity to children and young people
- are innovative and vibrant.
