ABOUT THE AWARDS

Wellington International Airport Limited, in partnership with The Community Trust of Wellington, and the five local councils have joined together to recognise the work carried out by community groups in the wider Wellington region. The focus of the Awards is to reward the valuable contribution made by volunteers.

  • Any not-for-profit group or organisation working in the interests of the community is eligible
  • An individual may nominate an organisation of which they are a member
  • The Awards are designed to recognise past achievements
  • The awards do not exclude community groups who use professionals to support the delivery of services undertaken by volunteers

KEY FACTORS

Key factors considered during judging are:

  • Volunteer input
  • Utilisation of resources
  • Innovation and creativity
  • Effectiveness of activities
  • Impact within the community

CATEGORIES

Nominations to be submitted under one of the following categories:

  • HERITAGE & ENVIRONMENT
  • HEALTH & WELLBEING
  • ARTS & CULTURE
  • SPORT & LEISURE
  • EDUCATION & CHILD/YOUTH DEVELOPMENT

JUDGING PROCESS/WINNERS

Nominations must be made on the official form [attached]. Additional supporting information may be supplied. A judging panel in each of the five local councils will select category winners who will receive $500 and a certificate. From these category winners, one overall winner for that area will also be selected, receiving an additional $500 and certificate. These awards will be announced and presented at a Mayoral function.

The category winners from each of the council areas will be invited to the regional awards function at Wellington Airport. Before the event, a judging panel will select a winner from each category. These winners receive a further $500 and a framed certificate. These awards will be announced and presented at the Wellington Airport function.

Also at this awards function the five overall winners selected at the council judging, will make a short presentation about their organisation. A judging panel will select a supreme winner from these 5 presentations. The supreme winner will receive $1000, a framed certificate, and a trophy that is held for one year. The supreme winner will represent the region at the TrustPower National Awards to be held in Palmerston North 13-15 March 2009
